Bas Leinders Junior Racing Team to contest the Formula 3 Euro Series

New asset for the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series grid: Belgium’s Bas Leinders will enter his newly founded Bas Leinders Junior Racing Team for the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series season, with young Belgian Michael Herck racing the team’s Dallara-Mercedes.

By racing for Bas Leinders, in his debut season in the most competitive young gun series of the world, Michael Herck cooperates with one of the most successful Belgians when it comes to this motor racing category. Back in 1998, Leinders won the German Formula 3 Championship for Team Van Amersfoort Racing - the series that merged with its French equivalent to become the Formula 3 Euro Series. Now, last year’s Minardi F1 test driver Leinders and his management are working on securing a ChampCar World Series deal.

“I’ve been considering for quite a while to support young Belgian racing drivers,” reveals Leinders. “Now I’ve got a great chance of doing so with the Bas Leinders Junior Racing Team. Furthermore, I’m delighted with Mercedes-Benz trusting in us in such an early stadium of our team’s development.”

The team’s first driver, Michael Herck, has grown 17 early in August. The native Bucharester contested selected rounds in the German Recaro Formula 3 Cup and the British Formula 3 Championship to efficiently prepare for his maiden Formula 3 Euro Series season. In 2004, Herck won the Italian and Spanish Formula Renault 1600 Championship titles. “It’s just fantastic to cooperate with an experienced racing driver such as Bas Leinders,” cheered Michael Herck. “I’ll give my very best to follow in his footsteps.”
